KURAKARAN KUDUMBAYOGAM AT VALAKOM PADINJAREVEEDU

KURAKARAN KUDUMBAYOGAM

AT VALAKOM PADINJAREVEEDU

It is believed that St. Thomas, the disciple of Jesus Christ who came to India in 52 AD, landed in the port town of Kodungalloor and established a Christian community there. Thus our family had its beginnings in Kodungalloor. The then Christians were much hard working and prosperous and hence they were victims of jealousy among the locals and had to face many problems. As a result, some of them left Kodungalloor in the early part of the 9th Century. Some members of the Sankarapuri family(Sankurickal Family left Kodungalloor and lived nearby Kuravilangad Kuravilangad Sankarapuri valiyaveedu was one of famous family in Kerala. In the year 1705 Mr. Mathen member of Valiyaveedu left Kuravilangad. And reached Kottarkara and established his residence at Kizhakketheruve. His residence Known as Kurakaran Valiyaveedu.

Mr. Mathan is the founder o Kurakaran Kudumbayogam was started in 1969 and registered under charitable society Act. The aim of the Kudumbayogam is to maintain solidarity and unity among family members and to instill in them a taste in fine arts, cultural activities. Religious, moral and educational development of family members is also envisaged. The motto of our Kudumbayogam is faith, hope and love.

Kurakaran Family is one of the oldest Christian families in Central Travancore. St.Thomas the Apostle of Lord Jesus Christ established seven churches. The seven churches were located at Malayattor,Palayur,Koovakayal,Kokkamangalam,Kollam,Niranam and Nilackel. The early Christians also known as Mappillai,Nasrani,Syrian Christians .St.Thomas,the disciple of Lord Jesus Christ who came to India in 52 AD,landed in Kodungalloor and established a Christian Church. So some of these local people converted to christians. When they accept lord Jesus,he began to bless these people. So these Christians became physically and financially sound. Some reason, some of these families had to leave from there. We believed that, some members of the Sankarapuri family settled in Kuravilangad. In the year 1705 Mr. Mathen , member of the Sankurickal Valiyaveedu, Kuravilangad left his place and reside at kottarkara with the permission of the King The king appointed him as the manager of his palace. He bought somany property. There were only few Christian families in kottarakara at that time He was a very respected person in Kottarakara. His residence was known as Valiyaveedu. Valiyaveedu is the Tharavad of the Kurakaran family.
