മെയ് 12 ലോക നഴ്സസ് ദിനം
ഫ്‌ളോറന്‍സ് നൈറ്റിംഗേല്‍ എന്ന മാലാഖയോടുള്ള ആദരസൂചകമായിട്ടാണ് അവരുടെ ജന്‍മദിനമായ മെയ് 12 നഴ്സസ് ഡേ ആയി ആചരിക്കുന്നത്. യുദ്ധത്തില്‍ പരിക്കേറ്റവരെ രാത്രിയില്‍ വിളക്കും കയ്യിലേന്തി ശുശ്രൂഷിച്ചിരുന്ന നൈറ്റിംഗേല്‍ ശരിക്കും 'വിളക്കേന്തിയ ഒരു മാലാഖ'തന്നെയായിരുന്നു. നഴ്‌സിങ് എന്ന പ്രൊഫഷന് ഇന്നു കാണുന്ന അംഗീകാരം നേടിക്കൊടുത്തതും അവരുടെ സമര്‍പ്പിതജീവിതമാണ്. ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ധനിക കുടുംബത്തിലെ അംഗമായി 1820 മെയ് 12-നായിരുന്നു ഫ്‌ളോറന്‍സ് നൈറ്റിംഗേലിന്റെ ജനനം. വില്യം എഡ്വേര്‍ഡ് നൈറ്റിംഗേലും ഫ്രാന്‍സിസ് നി സ്മിത്തുമായിരുന്നു മാതാപിതാക്കള്‍. ഇറ്റാലിയന്‍ നഗരമായ ഫ്‌ളോറന്‍സിലാണ് അവള്‍ ജനിച്ചത്. അതുകൊണ്ട് അവള്‍ക്ക് മാതാപിതാക്കള്‍ ആ നഗരത്തിന്റെ പേരു തന്നെയിടുകയായിരുന്നു. സാമ്പത്തികമായി ഉയര്‍ന്ന കുടുംബങ്ങളിലെ യുവതികളെ എത്രയും പെട്ടെന്ന് കല്യാണം കഴിപ്പിച്ചുവിടുകയായിരുന്നു അക്കാലത്ത്. ജോലിക്ക് പോവുന്ന കാര്യം ചിന്തിക്കാന്‍ പോലും പറ്റാത്ത അവസ്ഥ. ഇതില്‍നിന്ന് വ്യത്യസ്തയായിരുന്നു നൈറ്റിംഗേല്‍. പാവപ്പെട്ടവരെയും രോഗികളെയും ശുശ്രൂഷിക്കാനായിരുന്നു അവര്‍ക്ക് താല്‍പര്യം.
അച്ഛന്റെ എസ്റ്റേറ്റിനടുത്തുള്ള ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ പാവപ്പെട്ടവരെയും അസുഖബാധിതരെയും പലപ്പോഴും ആരുമറിയാതെ അവള്‍ സഹായിച്ചു. പതിനാറാം വയസ്സില്‍ തന്നെ അവള്‍ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു, തന്റെ വഴി ആതുരശുശ്രൂഷയാണെന്ന്. വീട്ടുകാരും ബന്ധുക്കളും എതിര്‍ത്തു. കാശുള്ള കുടുംബത്തിലെ പെണ്‍കുട്ടി, എന്തിനാണ് ഈ ജോലിക്ക് പോവുന്നതെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് നിരുത്സാഹപ്പെടുത്തി. അതിനിടയിലാണ് 1850ല്‍ ജര്‍മനിയിലെ കയ്‌സേഴ്‌സ് ബര്‍ത്തില്‍ പാസ്റ്റര്‍ തിയഡോര്‍ ഫ്‌ളിഡ്‌നറുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തില്‍ പാവപ്പെട്ടവരെ ശുശ്രൂഷിക്കുന്നത് അവള്‍ കണ്ടത്. അത് നൈറ്റിംഗേലിന്റെ ജീവിതത്തിലെ ഒരു വഴിത്തിരിവായി.
പുഞ്ചിരിയോടെ സേവനം ചെയ്യും മാലാഖമാർക്ക് സ്നേഹത്തിൻ പൂച്ചെണ്ടുകൾ അർപ്പിക്കുന്നു.പരിഭവമില്ലാതെ പരാതിയില്ലാതെ,സ്വന്തം വീടും നാടും വിട്ടെറിഞ്ഞ്, ,കയ്യും മെയ്യും മറന്ന് ,ആതുര ശുശ്രൂഷയിൽ പത്തരമാറ്റായി മാറിയ,വിളക്കേന്തിയ വനിതയുടെ പിൻഗാമികൾക്ക് ആശംസകൾ.
World Nurses Day 2021 for health workers helping us in Covid. Nurses Day is a day observed every year on May 12 to honour nurses. The International Council of Nurses (ICN) celebrated the day for the first time in 1965.Apart from being a nurse, Nightingale was a social reformer and a statistician. She came into prominence for her contributions as a nurse during the Crimean War. During the war, she was serving as a manager and trainer of nurses and she was instrumental in organising care for wounded soldiers at Constantinople. Due to her efforts, nursing got a favourable reputation and she became an icon of Victorian culture. In 1860, the foundation of modern nursing was laid with the establishment of Nightingale’s nursing school at St Thomas Hospital in London.
In 2020 and 2021, we have seen the devastations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. In almost two years since the pandemic began in 2020, the world has seen over 160 million coronavirus cases and over 3 million deaths worldwide. The pandemic has burdened our health infrastructure unlike ever before. However, despite the magnitude of the situation, our health workers — doctors, nurses and others — have been at the forefront fighting the virus and saving lives. Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system who have been risking their lives for months. Despite their importance to our health infrastructure, there is an urgent shortage of nurses worldwide despite them constituting more than half of the health workers, according to the World Health Organization. According to ICN, more than 1.6 million health workers in 34 countries were infected by Covid-19 as of 31st December, 2020.Amid this backdrop, the International Nurses Day 2021 assumes great significance to express our deep gratitude for nurses and health workers around the world.
