Valiyaveettil Family is the main offshoot of the kuravilangad Shankurickal
Valiyaveettil Family. Shankurickal Valiyaveedu was the branch of Shankarapuri
Illam. The Syrian Christian congregation at Kottayam Kuravinlangad was formed
by the decedents of the four Namboothiri Illams which plays a prominent role in
Kerala history. The four families included Shankara puri, Pakalomattom,Kalli
and Kaaliyaankal which for the first time in the history of the Christian
church of Malabar embraced the Christian
faith consequent on the mission of St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of
Jesus Christ. The mission activities of St. Thomas mainly centered
around Kodungalloor,Palayoor and other adjoining areas. Some prominent members
of the four families moved to Kuravilamgad and Chaayal and they settle down
there. The life at Kuravilangad was covetable and pleasant. The happy and
peaceful days they enjoyed there made them flourish and prosper. The four family

KURAKARAN VALIYAVEETTIL KUDUMBAM-HISTORY
KURAKARAN
VALIYAVEETTIL KUDUMBAM
It is believed that St. Thomas, the disciple of Jesus Christ
who came to India in 52 AD, landed in the port town of Kodungalloor and
established a Christian community there. Thus our family had its beginnings in
Kodungalloor. The then Christians were much hard working and prosperous and
hence they were victims of jealousy among the locals and had to face many
problems. As a result, some of them left Kodungalloor in the early part of the
9th Century. The Kuravilangad Shankurickal Valiyaveedu is the root of 'Our' Kurakaran
Valiyaveettil family. Kuravilangad Valiyaveettil Mathen was God
fearing, very sincere and hard working man. He was very pleasing and was easily
approachable. His humble and gentle nature impressed the King of Kottarakara. He was very
intelligent .He had a guided destiny and fortune bestowed upon him the best
things in life.Mathen was very honest and straight forward in his business
dealings.
